Parthiban was found in an inebriated condition and was found unconscious in the boat.

VEDARANYAM: The district police arrested a Sri Lankan national after he landed at Manian Theevu near here in the wee hours of Monday with two others for allegedly pedaling ‘Ganja’.

Police said, the arrested Parthasarathy (40) alias Parthiban of Velvettithurai, Sri Lanka, and two others came in a boat and landed at Manian Theevu.

Parthiban was found in an inebriated condition and was found unconscious in the boat.

The other two attempted to wake up Parthiban, but in vain.

Following this, the duo dumped Parthiban on the shore and fled.

Waking up later this morning, Parthiban boarded a bus to Nagapattinam.

On suspicion, the co-passengers alerted the police, who promptly arrested the Lankan Tamil and are investigating.

SHOCKING MURDER AND SUICIDE

Meanwhile, in neighbouring Tiruvarur district, a 35-year-old daily-wage worker allegedly murdered his 30-year-old wife, suspecting her fidelity, before committing suicide by hanging at Kanakooduthaavanitham village near Tiruvarur on Monday.

Police said the daily-wage worker Senthilkumar first doused his wife with kerosene and attacked her with wooden logs before setting fire to her.

The poor woman succumbed to her burns in government medical college hospital, Tiruvarur.

Later, Senthilkumar hung himself from a tree on the banks of the Pandavaiyaru river in the same village. Police are investigating.
