Bengaluru: Techie filed harassment complaint against wife and in-laws

Bengaluru: A software engineer has filed a complaint against his wife and in-laws, alleging that they were demanding Rs 2 crore and were threatening to file a dowry harassment complaint against him if he failed to pay them.

The complainant, Dheeraj Reddy Chintal, from Doddanekkundi and working with a private software firm, lodged the complaint at the Mahadevapura police station against his wife Jaya Shruthi and five others.

He stated in the complaint that he got married in 2014. In 2017, his wife forced him to buy diamond jewellery worth Rs 30 lakh and threatened to commit suicide if he did not.

He alleged that his wife smoked and consumed alcohol, but when he informed his in-laws, instead of asking her to stop, they supported her. He alleged that she threatened him with filing a police complaint if he did not obey her orders. She also made her three friends follow him. When the techie asked his wife about it, she demanded Rs 2 crore.

The police said that they have issued a notice to six of them to appear before the investigating officer. After taking their statements, further probe will be conducted.

The Mahadevapura police have registered a complaint and are investigating.
