Hyderabad: 5 Muthoot looters nabbed, 3 on run

Of the 42.5 kg of property looted, the police recovered 3.5 kg on Sunday.

Hyderabad: Eighteen days after the robbery at Muthoot Finance in Ramachan-drapuram, the Cyberabad police arrested five members of the gang that committed the crime, from Karnataka and Mumbai, and recovered less than 10 per cent of the looted property. Police said that the same gang was involved in four earlier robberies in Muthoot Finance branches.

The arrested persons were identified as the kingpin of the gang, Laxman Narayan Mudhang, his cousin Vijay Kumar, Ganesh Pandurang Bhonsle alias Patil, Subhash Pujari Pandey and Kumarpal Trilokchand Shah.

Three others, Tukaram Gaekwad, Sunder Rajaratnam Kanagalla and Kaala alias Lambu are absconding, police said.

Of the 42.5 kg of property looted, the police recovered 3.5 kg on Sunday. The movements of the gang were traced through 60 CCTV cameras on the route from RC Puram to Wadi.

At a press conference on Sunday, Cyberabad police commissioner Sandeep Shandilya said that the gang entered the Muthoot branch on December 28 morning, around 9.15, and completed their work in less than half an hour.

They had just one bag with them to pack the jewellery, but after seeing the huge amount of jewellery, they forced three employees of the company to empty their backpacks and filled the booty in them. They were still short of bags so one of the robbers went back to their vehicle and brought in another backpack and a blanket in which more of the booty was packed.
