Two held for Payyannur murder

According to sources, police are yet to find out the motive behind the murder of Dhanaraj.

KANNUR: Two CPM workers were arrested for the attack on the house of a BJP leader hours after the murder of CPM worker C.V. Dhanaraj in Payyannur on Monday night. According to police, the arrested are Suresh Kumar (36) and P.V Vyshakh (24), both from Karivellur. They had attacked the house and damaged the vehicles of BJP leader M.V. Raveendran of Karivellur.

Meanwhile, the police grilled several workers of CPM and BJP in connection with the murders of Dhanaraj and Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) leader C.K. Ramachandran. Top officers led by Superintendent of police K. Sanjaykumar Gurudin are camping in the area. According to sources, police are yet to find out the motive behind the murder of Dhanaraj. The probe team had confirmed that Ramachandran’ killing was a retaliation.

Dhanaraj, the CPM village secretary and branch committee member, was attacked by a group of masked men who followed him on bikes and hacked him at his house at 10.30 pm. Within hours, the house of BMS Payyannur zonal president and auto driver Ramachandran was attacked with country bombs and later he was stabbed. Both of them were taken to nearby hospitals, but died on the way. Nearly 10 houses belonging to CPM and BJP workers were attacked in Payyannur following the twin murder. Vehicles and shops were also gutted in the violence.
