Six people were arrested for trying to sell drugs in the city in three separate cases on Tuesday

Bengaluru: Six people were arrested for trying to sell drugs in the city in three separate cases on Tuesday in Koramangala, Hulimavu and Mico Layout police station limits and nearly 130 kg of ganja was seized. In the first incident the Hulimavu police arrested three people, who had stored 75 kg of ganja at their residence and in boxes along with dry fish. The accused have been identified as Govindraju, 29, a resident of Kothanur and hails from Tamil Nadu, Basavaraj, 28, a resident of Yelachenahalli and a native of Ramanagara, Magendra alias Mahendra, 22, a resident of J.P. Nagar and a native of Chamarajanagar.

The three moved to the city 10 years ago and were working as wall painters, before getting into drug peddling. According to the police, based on credible information Govindraju was arrested while trying to sell the ganja and 5 kg of the drug was seized. The accused used to pack the ganja in aluminum foils, which resembled food parcels, and sell them to customers for Rs 200-500 each.

When the police interrogated him, he revealed that ganja was stored at their house near T. John College on Bannerghatta Road. When the police raided the place they found 70 kg of ganja stored in thermocol boxes below dry fish. The police arrested Basavaraj and Mahendra; seized a car, an auto and two bikes that were used to transport drugs.

The police said the accused sold the drugs in small quantities to college students and private firm employees in the city.

In another case, Koramangala police arrested a 29-year-old habitual offender for trying to sell drugs and have seized 40 kg of ganja on Tuesday. The accused has been identified as Naveen Kumar, hailing from Chamarajanagar.

Based on a tip off, the police reached St John's hospital bus stand, where he was waiting for his customers with 40 kg of ganja and was arrested. Earlier, he was booked for dacoity in Kalasipalya police station, but he skipped court hearing and went into hiding. He was arrested by the Kaggalipura police in 2016 on drug peddling case, but soon he came out on bail and restarted selling drugs. He used the money he got from selling drugs to buy a site in his hometown.

In another similar case, the Mico Layout police have arrested two people from Odisha and seized 15 kg of ganja from them on Tuesday. The accused have been identified as Jagar Samal, 30 and Lokanath Sahini , 32, both are from Odisha and had rented a house on the city outskirts.

According to the police, based on a tip off the police reached BTM Layout II Stage where they were trying to sell drugs. The police arrested the duo and seized 15 kg of ganja from them.

They bought drugs in Odisha and sold it in the city for a higher price to the college students and known customers.
