Medical seat racket in Bengaluru: 2 held for duping people of crores

The accused had earlier helped a few students get PG medical seats and hence everyone believed them.

Bengaluru: The Mico Layout police have arrested two people for duping people of crores of rupees under the pretext of assuring them of a post-graduation seat in reputed medical colleges in the city. The accused have been identified as Rajath Shetty, 31, from Kumdapura, a BE graduate and Jayaprakash Singh, 31, a BBM graduate and hailing from Jharkhand. Rajath had earlier worked in an IT company for two years and later set up a consultancy firm. According to the police, the accused had opened Global Learning and Educational Consultancy in BTM II Stage with fake identities and assured students and their parents, hailing from other states, of providing them post-graduate medical seats.

The accused had earlier helped a few students get PG medical seats and hence everyone believed them.

The accused took lakhs of rupees and invested them in real estate and stock exchange. They bought expensive vehicles and went on foreign tours with their families. They spent Rs 40 lakh on interior decoration of their new fake consultancy office. Rajath was previously booked of eight cheating cases in Manipal police station limits in 2013. Jayapraksh had come to the city in search of job and joined Rajath’s office, together they duped people of crores of rupees.

The accused would send the money to their relatives account and the police have recovered Rs 50 lakh fixed deposit in a private bank in their relative’s account, Rs 12 lakh deposit in their personal account and Rs 20 lakh which was given as an advance to buy an apartment in Electronics City. The police have also freezed their bank accounts and are investigating. The Mico Layout police have registered a case and are on the lookout.
