Chennai: A 29-year-old government staff working in backward class welfare dept in Ezhilagam in Chennai committed suicide by setting herself on fire at her husband’s house in Gummidipoondi.

The deceased was identified as Lakshmi, wife of Murugan of Pathirivedu near Gummidipoondi. Both got married six months back after a love affair but were staying separately for the last few days after a quarrel. She was staying in Hasthinapuram in Chennai.

On Tuesday she went to Pathirivedu to meet her husband. “It looks like the meeting ended in quarrel and Lakshmi walked out of the house. She came to the road and doused herself with fuel before setting herself on fire,” the police said. She was taken to Kilpauk medical college hospital where she succumbed to injuries on Wednesday morning. Pathirivedu police have registered a case and investigating the case.
