Suicide pact: Four of family found dead

The Vidyaranyapura police found the four decomposed bodies in the house and a suicide note at the spot.

Bengaluru: A family of four, including a six-year-old girl, were found dead at their residence at Doddabommasandra in Vidyaranyapura police limits on Monday. The family is suspected to have committed suicide on Saturday after the death of a man who had taken an advance of Rs 25 lakh from them to buy a house.

The deceased have been identified Janardhan B. (52), a cab driver, his wife Sumithra (45), a homemaker, their daughter Sudharani (29) and her daughter Sonica A. (6), a class I student at a private school.

Sudharani was married to Arjun and they were living with their daughter in Mathikere, where they ran a medical shop. Last week, Sudharani left the house, saying she was going to her parents’ house to attend a wedding with them. Arjun called Sudharani on her phone on Saturday, but she did not respond. He did not go to his in-laws’ house thinking his wife would be busy with the marriage ceremony.

The police said that the family was last seen on Saturday morning and the incident came to light on Monday after the neighbours complained of a foul smell coming from the house. The Vidyaranyapura police found the four decomposed bodies in the house and a suicide note at the spot.

The suicide note, by Sudharani, states that she had given Rs 25 lakh to a man to buy a house. But he died in an accident recently. But she has not mentioned the name of the man, whom she had given the money to, a senior police officer said.

The police suspect all the four to have overdosed on tablets and are waiting for postmortem reports to confirm the cause.
