IED blast rocks premises of Nellore district court

Police cleared the premises and bomb squads, a dog squad and Clues teams scanned the area.

Nellore: An IED blast rocked the Nellore district court at 3.10 pm on Monday. The deafening sound of the pressure cooker bomb was heard till the RTC bus stand 300 meter away. As Monday was a holiday, not many people were at court and there were no casualties.

Advocate Rajasekhar, who was near the canteen when the blast occurred, said that he had initially thought that it was an earthquake as the ground shook.

Police cleared the premises and bomb squads, a dog squad and Clues teams scanned the area. The pressure cooker was found near the compound wall opposite the Third and Fourth Additional Junior Civil Judges courts. Police found four 9-volt batteries connected to the explosives. The chemicals used have not been analysed. Generally Ammonium Nitrate is used for such blasts.

Going by the low intensity blast and the tech used, it appears to be done by someone with knowledge of explosives. Their intention seemed to be only to frighten people. SP Vishal Gunni said cops had found a pressure cooker and a wire.
