Hyderabad: The arrest of an Amazon employee and his friend revealed a story of how the youth peddling and selling drugs since teenage years by personally visiting and buying the narcotic drugs from Goa and other states like Himachal. Their rapport with local drug circles there led to them to become peddlers who sold the best LSD and Ecstasy in the market, said officials from the Excise and Prohibition Department.
Many students visit Goa at least twice a month to procure the psychedelic drugs and smuggle them to Hyderabad, where they sell for a much higher price and lead a lavish life with that money, officials say.
“The prime spot in Goa to ‘score’, as these youngsters say, is Anjuna beach, where they have good sources, including locals and outsiders who settled there. LSD and other drugs are brought to Hyderabad in liquid form in small bottles, which look similar to eye drops,” said the officials, adding that they made LSD blots in the city using small pieces of paper or stamps.
One or two drops of LSD can make a single blot and fetch more than '2,000. Similarly, Ecstasy is also concealed in books or other articles before smuggling into Hyderabad, said another senior official from the Hyderabad Task Force.
Besides LSD and Ecstasy, these peddlers sell Charas, which is usually smuggled from Kasol in Himachal Pradesh. According to the investigation officials in the Excise Department, the majority of customers of LSD and Ecstasy in the city are students and some IT professionals.
Explaining about LSD (Lysergic acid diethylamide), the DCP of Commissioner’s Task Force, P. Radhakrishna Rao, said that it was also known as lysergide, colloquially known as acid.
“LSD is the most potent, mood changing chemical and anxiety, paranoia, and delusions are possible. LSD is commonly added to absorbent paper and divided into small squares. LSD is extremely poisonous and its effects are unpredictable. A small amount can produce 12 hours of effect. The selling price ranges between Rs 2,000 and Rs 3,000 per stamp depending upon customers and their urgency.” said the official.
