Police also found that the suspect had conducted bogus interviews for around 86 people and cheated them.

Hyderabad: Cyber crime police arrested a person from Bengaluru for cheating a Hyderabadi promising an Infosys job.

The suspect, C. Ravi Kumar, 35, an event manager, had taken the help of a former Infosys employee to pull off the scam. After his arrest, police found that he had cheated dozens of other people in different parts of the country.

Police said the victim, Rajashekhar Reddy, an engineering graduate from Kushaiguda, got in touch with the administrator of a Facebook group named ‘backdoor jobs’ when he saw an advertisement about a job in Infosys. The admin then called him and asked him to deposit Rs 1 lakh.

“After Rajashekhar deposited the amount, the FB group administrator sent a fake appointment letter through email and asked Reddy to deposit '85,000 more. Rajashekhar then complained to us,” inspector Md Riyazuddin of Cybercrime station said.

“During the probe, we found that the email ID used by the conman belonged to a dismissed employee of Infosys’ Bengaluru centre. Further, we found that the accused had used a SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) server and spoofed the email ID having the extension @Infosys.com,” said inspector Md Riyazuddin from Cybercrime station.
