Lamborghini detained, reckless driver fined

Chennai: An overspeeding luxury super car was detained by the city police on Monday after the driver of the car reportedly sped through roads, causing panic among motorists. The car had set off from TTK road and was moving on Kamarajar Salai when two policewomen on their scooter were startled as the vehicle zipped past them dangerously. Police sources said that the vehicle was speeding and driven dangerously. The policewomen alerted the traffic cop near them who notified his colleagues at the next signals about the speeding car. The car had a brief halt near Vivekanandar Illam to pick up a person and sped again.Barricades were put up near the Ezhilagam traffic signal, where the car was flagged.

The car was driven by K. Ramesh (36) of Nattu Muthu Kumarappa Street, Mylapore. “The driver of the vehicle was not wearing a seat belt,” a police officer said. The Italian automobile was towed to the Triplicane police station and was detained there for a couple of hours. Police investigations revealed that the car was not driven under the influence of alcohol. However, he was fined Rs 1,200 for overspeeding and for not wearing seat belt. “The vehicle was driven beyond the maximum speed limit of 60kmph and it makes loud noise which causes panic among other motorists,” said a police officer. The vehicle was returned to the owner in the evening.
