Hyderabad: Hospital staff aid sale of baby

Police sources said Renuka had also sold a baby for Rs 1 lakh to another couple recently.

Hyderbad: A day-old male infant was sold to strangers with the help of the staff of Aditya Hospital, Boggulkunta, Hyderabad. The incident came to light on Monday when Renuka, a helper at the hospital was having a conversation with her colleague about the sale of a baby while travelling in a bus and the conductor, who overheard it alerted the police. Police found that a 17-year-old girl from BDL Bhanur village, Medak, had delivered the child on Sunday afternoon. As she was unmarried and her parents were unwilling to accept the child, Renuka suggested that she can arrange to sell the baby.

She paid Rs 40,000 as advance and agreed to pay Rs 60,000 more by Tuesday, took the child and gave it to her brother who was childless and paid Rs 40,000 towards hospital expenses. “We are verifying the facts,” said Meerpet Inspector N. Ch. Rangaswamy. Renuka has been taken into custody. A case has been registered under section 81 of the Juvenile Justice JJ Act and the baby has been shifted to Niloufer hospital. Police sources said Renuka had also sold a baby for Rs 1 lakh to another couple recently. AP Balala Hakkula Sangham demanded action against the hospital.
