Hyderabad: The Gachibowli police is seeking medical and legal assistance in a case in which a woman, allegedly suffering from a psychological disorder, threw her one-and-a-half-month-old baby girl into a water sump while her husband and other family members were asleep.
During investigation, the police found that Deepthi had thrown the baby, Akshita Sai, into the water tank and gone to sleep. She confessed the same before police and told family members she was driven by some external force.
“It is clear that Deepthi threw the baby into the tank,” a Gachibowli police official said. “She reportedly suffered a psychological problem after delivery. She twice attempted suicide after delivery and claims somebody told her, while she was asleep, to throw the baby into the tank or they would take her husband’s life.”
Shocked by Deepthi’s answers, the police is confused how to proceed further. The investigation will proceed after taking legal advice and assistance from medical experts.
The incident took place at Serlingampally in Gachibowli on the night of February 9.
Gachibowli police received a complaint from Deepthi’s husband T. Mahesh saying unidentified persons killed their baby girl. Mahesh and Deepthi lived with Mahesh’s parents in a rented house on Street No. 3 in Serilingampally under Gachibowli police station.
Around 11 pm on Saturday, Mahesh’s father Narasimha Rao and his mother noticed Akshita was missing. They immediately woke up others and searched for the baby. After around 30 minutes, they found the girl in the water tank in the front of their house.
The baby was rushed to KIMS hospital and later to Niloufer Hospital in an unconscious state. The family members initially thought some unidentified person had carried out the inhumane act and lodged a complaint with Gachibowli police.
The police initially registered a case of attempt to murder, but later changed it to murder as the girl died during treatment on Sunday.
