Tricolour defaced in protest against Nupur’s remarks

After prayers, hundreds of Muslims marched in the town shouting slogans against the BJP government at the Centre and Nupur Sharma

HYDERABAD: Accusing former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma's remarks on Prophet Muhammad, members of Islamic groups staged protest in Mahbubnagar and defaced the Tricolour replacing Ashok Chakra at the centre with Muslim Kalima.

Even though the police deployed forces heavily, hundreds of Muslims marched ahead carrying placards condemning Nupur Sharma's remarks against Prophet Muhammad and demanding immediate action. They offered Friday prayers at the Masjid-e-Rahmat mosque in Mahbubnagar.

After prayers, hundreds of Muslims marched in the town shouting slogans against the BJP government at the Centre and Nupur Sharma. Later, they submitted a memorandum to the district collector seeking legal action against Nupur Sharma for humiliating a section of people making objectionable remarks during a TV show.

Meanwhile, the BJP chief and MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar alleged that a section of a particular community wanted to create problems and disturb peace to drive political mileage after the Kashi Viswanath issue.

Sanjay Kumar stated that insult to Indian national flag in any form was punishable as per the Prevention of Insult to National Honour Act 1971. Any violator can be sentenced to imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years with fine, he said.

“The BJP strongly condemns defacing of Indian Tricolour during protests by certain sections in Muslim community in Mahabubnagar and demands immediately action against the agitators who dared to dishonour Tricolour. It is an insult to India and to the secular credentials as the protests across the country are pre-planned. The police should act immediately and take stern action against the protestors who disrespected Tricolour by writing Kalima in place of Ashok Chakra. It is a very shocking incident and protests are posing a challenge to the Indian government," the BJP chief said.

Certain sections in a community seem to be showing their power of unity and throwing open challenges to Centre by indulging in violence in some parts of the country even after BJP has taken action against its leaders who made statements on Prophet Muhammed. Bandi Sanjay appealed to majority people to open their eyes at least now to be cautious against those who wanted to create disturbances.
