Kottayam: Assam migrant labour murder unsolved

Was beaten to death by locals at Chiravumuttam on May 4 last year.

Kottayam: The police have not framed all the accused in the murder case of a migrant labourer who was beaten to death by the locals at Chiravumuttam near Chinagavanam on May 4 last year.

The victim Jyothi Behra, an Assam native, had tried to enter a house in an intoxicated state when the people caught him, tied his hands and legs and threw him to the roadside after beating him up.

As of now, there are four accused in the case. The first and fourth accused are out on bail and the second has moved the High Court for bail. Reji, the third accused, is at large. “There are a few more accused but the locals are unwilling to identify them,” police sources told DC.

There are allegations that the police are slow-pedalling the investigation as the victim belongs to Assam. The post-mortem report said a head injury caused by a blunt object had resulted in his death.
