Coimbatore: Man bashed by son dies – Liquor row

Since Krishnan refused to give him money, Kumaravel had a heated verbal quarrel with his father.

COIMBATORE: A 65-year-old senior citizen who was brutally attacked by his son died on Monday without responding to treatment after being admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

According to police, Krishnan, resident of Saravanampatty, Murugan Nagar, had a run-in with his son, Kumaravel (31), a daily wager, said to be an alcohol addict.

Kumaravel had remained at home without any job for the past few weeks had picked a quarrel with his father last week, asking for money to buy alcohol.

Since Krishnan refused to give him money, Kumaravel had a heated verbal quarrel with his father.

In a fit of rage, Kumaravel later attacked his father with a wooden club and broke his father's head. Following this, Krishnan fainted and was lying in a pool of blood.

Hearing the commotion, Krishnan's neighbors came running in and they rushed him to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH). After being under treatment for the past one week, Krishnan died on Monday without responding to treatment.

Saravanampatty police lodged a murder complaint against Kumaravel and arrested him. Investigations are on.
