Chennai: Not aware victim was a minor, says arrested doctor

Accused ambulance driver, who drugged girl, on run.

Chennai: Two days after a woman approached the police commissioner seeking action against those who had forced her 15-year-old daughter into flesh trade, city police arrested Dr Jayaprakas, a GH doctor, in Arani and two others.

Police sources quoted the doctor as saying to investigators that he was not aware that the victim was a minor and that she was introduced to him as a sex worker.

“He had attended to the girl when she suffered excessive bleeding from her private parts after she was raped. We are probing if he too had sexually abused the girl,” a senior police officer told DC.

The main accused is an ambulance driver, Suresh who had drugged and forced the teenager into flesh trade, police said.

The issue came to light after the girl’s mother; A Rani approached the city police on Thursday requesting action. Rani, a widow and a native of Villupuram district, lived with her two daughters in Koyambedu and were working as housekeeping staff at a private bank. Four months ago, an acquaintance of Rani, Chitra had approached her and told that she would help her by getting her elder daughter a job. The girl was taken to Arani in Tiruvannamalai district where she was provided job as a sales girl in a textile shop.

According to the complaint by the girl’s mother, Chitra’s husband is a truck driver and is not home most of the days. Making use of this opportunity, Chitra invited her friend, Suresh, an ambulance driver, who raped the teenager.

Suresh, with the help of the doctor, drugged the girl and sexually exploited her further. The girl escaped from Arani and reached Chennai a few days ago and narrated her ordeal to her mother.

Hunt is on for Chitra, Suresh and two others in connection with the case, police said.
