Bengaluru: An online hacker cheated the Manipal hospital employee of Rs 2 lakh by hacking into his sister’s email account and sent a mail requesting him to transfer funds.

The victim, Vijay Kumar, an administrator at Manipal Hospital, has filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime police. His sister Shanta resides in the US.

According to the police, on Thursday he received an email from Shanta’s account requesting him to immediately send Rs 2 lakh to her relative’s account. Vijay immediately transferred the money to the SBI account number provided in the mail and called up his sister.

He then realized that she had not sent any email and came to know that her account was hacked.

The Cyber Crime police have registered a case and are trying to trace the fraudsters through the bank account number to which the money was sent.
