Based on a tip off, the officials conducted raids at manufacturing units at Jeedimetla, Medchal and Cherlapally and apprehended their owners too, who were manufacturing and supplying duplicate tea powders and spurious coconut oil under the name of popular brands and misleading innocent customers and making them believe that they were original products of the branded companies.

Five years back, he used to supply cosmetics, stationery, safety pins and other general items in Begum Bazaar area, said the Additional DCP, Commissioner’s Task Force, Chaitanya Kumar.

“During this, he met one Rakesh Jain who collects scrap from the vendors at Begum Bazaar and transports it to his scrap shop at Jeedimetla, Medchal. They both hatched a plan to earn easy money illegally by manufacturing and selling duplicate Tea Powder. According to their plan, Rakesh Jain set up a manufacturing unit in his scrap shop at Jeedimetla and he started procuring the duplicate packets of branded tea powders from one Mishra of Jain marketing in Delhi, who used to visit his shop at Jeedimetla and supply the said counterfeit packing sheets of Chakra Gold, Red Label and Three Roses to Rakesh Jain. Rakesh Jain procured the sub-standard tea powder in loose from Begum Bazaar and packed them in the duplicate packets and supplied them to Pukhraj Purohit,” explained the DCP.
