Madras High Court asks CBI to arrest 2 accused

One accused has surrendered in the court. Hence the court ordered their arrest.

Madurai: The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court directed the CBI on Thursday to arrest two more accused involved in the 2007 Tamil Daily ‘Dinakaran’ office attack case before October 17. A division bench comprising Justices S. Nagamuthu and G. Muralidharan also directed the CBI to appoint a public prosecutor to represent the agency in the case.

The court issued this order after the advocates who appeared for the respondents contended that counsel Nagantharan, who is arguing for the CBI, was appointed without following CRPC procedures.

Though the CBI has arrested nine out of the 12 accused who had been absconding for a long time after the court issued non-bailable warrants, they had not arrested Dayamurthy and Kathuvasi Murugan so far. One accused has surrendered in the court. Hence the court ordered their arrest.

Meanwhile, six accused who are undergoing imprisonment appeared before the court today with four of them filing bail petitions. The court adjourned the hearing of the bail applications to September 22.
