The pre-monsoon showers have exposed the weak infrastructure of the city as many manholes have been overflowing in the rain.
Yes I'm aware of this manhole issue. Even in my ward in Jayanagar we have many complaints relating to manholes overflowing. The situation worsens during the monsoon.
What are you doing about it ?
I am in regular touch with the BWSSB officials. They promise us that they are taking action on the complaints about manholes overflowing. But there is little change on the ground.
So there is nosolution ?
This needs a permanent solution with both the BBMP and BWSSB working in coordination. Usually the water board visits the affected area with jetting machines to clear the clogged manhole. But they don’t seem to have bothered to replace the existing pipes with bigger ones with more carrying capacity. Like the side drains and storm water drains are desilted, manholes too need to be desilted regularly. That's the only solution.
