Bengaluru: Junior doctor, constable assault each other

Bengaluru: A junior doctor and a police constable allegedly assaulted each other and filed complaints at the Peenya police station on Monday.

Dr A.L. Sabin Iqbal, who hails from Kerala, stated in his complaint that a police constable, Manjunath, and an inspector assaulted him while he was heading home along with his two friends.. He said that the constable abused him for no reason and then physically attacked him. Dr Iqbal was coming back after emergency duty at Gadad Nursing Home in Bagalagunte.

Manjunath, a police constable attached to the Peenya police station stated in his complaint that he was on duty along with the inspector, and checking suspicious vehicles.

When they visited a lodge in Kirloskar Layout, they found the three junior doctors, including Al Sabin Iqbal. While Manjunath was carrying out an inquiry, the trio accused the cops of trying to extort money from people and a verbal spat followed between Manjunath and Dr Iqbal.

“The trio pushed down Manjunath and thrashed him. A police inspector rushed to Manjunath’s rescue. The inspector hit the trio with a cane to save Manjunath after which the three fled the spot,” said a senior police officer.

Both Manjunath and Dr Iqbal filed complaints at the police station.
