Hyderabad: Tension prevailed at Yakutpura late on Saturday night after members of two Muslim groups raised objections to alleged derogatory remarks made by a prominent speaker, Brother Imran, at a mosque during a religious meeting.
Local police personnel rushed to the spot and forces from different areas of the city were brought in. Assistance from the City Rapid Action Force, City Armed Reserve Force and Task Force was also sought.
“During his address to the gathering mainly comprising the Ahle Hadees, he reportedly passed some remarks against religious figures which prompted a reaction from Shia and Ahle Sunnatul Jammat groups,” a police official said.
As the address was in progress the crowd outside gathered and raised slogans demanding action against the speaker and the police started patrolling the area. A few youngsters even pelted stones at a police vehicle following rumours of clashes. At around 2 am, the police arrested Brother Imran.
