Bengaluru: NIA confirms arrest of Bangladeshi terrorist

Kausar was earlier residing in Bengaluru since 2014 and was selling clothes to conceal his identity.

Bengaluru: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday confirmed the arrest of a Bangladeshi national - Mohammed Jahidul Islam alias Kausar alias Munir Sheikh alias Munna alias Mizan alias Boma Miyan (38) from Ramanagara.

“Kausar is the top leader of proscribed terror organization –Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in India and is wanted in the 2014 Burdwan blast case (RC-03/2014/NIA/DLI) and recovery of IEDs near Kalchakra Maidan, Bodh Gaya (RC-04/2018/NIA/DLI). He is the mastermind in the latter case. On Kausar’s directions his accomplice Mustafizur Rehman alias Shahin had arranged and assembled all the explosives for the terror attack in Bodh Gaya, to avenge the atrocities on Rohingyas in Myanmar,” said Alok Mittal, Additional Director General of Police and NIA spokesperson.

“A non-bailable warrant and look out circular (LOC) were issued against Kausar. He is also wanted in serial blast cases in Bangladesh for, which he has been sentenced to a total 95 years of imprisonment in his country,” he added.

Kausar was earlier residing in Bengaluru since 2014 and was selling clothes to conceal his identity. He was arrested from Ramanagara.

The NIA on Tuesday also arrested Kausar’s right hand man - Adil alias Assadullah (29), near an auto stand outside the Cantonment Station in Bengaluru. Adil is the son of Laljan Sheikh and a resident of Elisabad village in Murshidabad district in West Bengal.

“The NIA officials had recovered three mobile sets, bank paying slips, hand written notes in Bangla language and a notebook containing notes regarding chemical formulas for preparation of IEDs,” said the NIA officer.

Kausar and Adil were produced before the Special Court for NIA in Kochi and Bengaluru. They will be taken to Patna on transit remand and produced before the Special NIA Court, there.
