SI and constable caught in bribe case

Hyderabad: The ACB caught Begumpet sub-inspector D. Sai Kumar of the 2020 batch and constable N. Naresh of the 2018 batch, for a demanding bribe from one Karmpet Raghavender, accused in a cheating case, to serve a Section 41A CrPC notice on him and release his bike which they had seized.

The ACB registered a case against the duo based on a complaint from Raghavender, and the audio and video electronic evidence that the ACB collected.

Raghavender faces a case lodged by a woman, whom he had allegedly promised to marry and cheated. In this connection, Sai Kumar seized his bike. To release the bike and to serve notice on him, Sai Kumar allegedly demanded ₹15,000 as bribe and also a fixed deposit receipt (FDR) valued ₹5,000 as surety to the notice.

The bargaining started from December 30, 2022 and was continuing, with the cops harassing him for the bribe amount, Raghavender told the police. The police did not let up even when he told them his wife was in hospital.

ACB sleuths recorded Raghavender's multiple visits to the police station, voice recording of the conversation he had with the cops, registered a case against them and nabbed them on Tuesday.
