Kerala: Court summons Dileep to appear on December 19

The additional chargesheet, which names 12 accused, was submitted by the SIT on November 22.

Kochi: The Angamaly Judicial Magistrate First Class Court has issued a summons to actor Dileep and two others, accused in the abduction and sexual assault of a female actor, to appear before it on December 19. According to sources, the summons to eighth accused Dileep, main accused Sunil Kumar aka Pulsar Suni and ninth accused Mesthari Sunil were issued as part of usual procedure after the court accepted the supplementary chargsheet submitted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Tuesday.

The additional chargesheet, which names 12 accused, was submitted by the SIT on November 22. The SIT is planning to approach the Ernakulam District and Sessions Court, seeking to fast-track the judicial proceedings in the case to avoid possibility of the accused influencing witnesses in case of a delay in trail.

Once the accused appear before the court, the chargesheet will be handed over to the Ernakulam Principal Sessions court, considering gravity of the offences. The Principal Sessions Judge will then decide which court to conduct the trial proceedings, the sources said.

"The procedure (issuing the summons) is part of letting the accused know about the chargesheet. They can file pleas to quash the report," said a source with the prosecution. As per the supplementary chargesheet, Dileep had conspired with Pulsar Suni to commit the crime on February 17. The SIT enlisted over 355 witnesses in the case including Dileep's ex-wife Manju Warrier and wife Kavya Madhavan.
