Chain snatching: 2 arrested, 26 cases solved

Bengaluru: The West division police arrested 18 accused, including two chain snatchers, and cracked 73 cases. Booty worth Rs 1.07 crore, including 3 kg of gold jewellery, has been recovered from the arrested.

The Basaveshwaranagar police arrested Harish, 30, and Mahendra Rao, 29, both residents of Gayatrinagar at Subramanyanagar, and have solved 26 chain snatching cases. The police said the duo had committed chain snatchings at Basaveshwaranagar, Vijayanagar, Chandra Layout, Annapoorneshwari Nagar, Mahalakshmi Layout and other areas. The police recovered 1.25 kg of gold jewels worth '34.50 lakh and four bikes used to commit the offences from the accused.

In another case, the Upparpet police arrested three thieves who committed thefts in buses. The accused, all from Anekal, targeted passengers in BMTC and KSRTC buses.

They were involved in 17 cases and over one kg of gold jewels worth Rs 30 lakh were recovered from them. Besides, Ramesh Achari, 42, a pawn broker in Kuppam town in Andhra Pradesh, who received the stolen jewels was arrested.
