Hyderabad: Drunk ASI, home guard booked

One of the victims, a woman, said that both the cops had misbehaved with her and attacked her for opening her shop early in the morning.

Hyderabad: RC Puram police booked an ASI and a home guard for creating nuisance after getting drunk and misbehaving with the public and beating them up on Friday. The duo were identified as ASI Bethappa and home guard Maqsood.

In the early hours of Friday, Bethappa and Maqsood saw some roadside vendors opening shops in the LIG area.

They went to the vendors and abused them for opening the shops early in the morning.

After that, they stopped RTC bus driver Subrahmanyeswara Rao and his helper Shiva Prasad of Vijayawada, who were passing by. When Shiva Prasad tried to stop them, they beat him with lathis and seriously injured him.

Locals, who saw this tried to nab the duo but they gave them the slip. Shiva Prasad was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was treated, discharged and sent back to Vijayawada.

Later, the vendors filed a complaint with the police. One of the victims, a woman, said that both the cops had misbehaved with her and attacked her for opening her shop early in the morning.

She told the police the duo were heavily drunk and did not listen to her pleas.

Based on their complaint, police registered a case and detained the duo for questioning.

Police said the matter was referred to higher officials for action.
