Kochi: The Special Investigation Team continued to interrogate more persons from the film field on Wednesday as part of its efforts to collect strong evidence before making any further arrest in connection with the conspiracy behind the abduction and sexual assault of an actor in Kochi over four months ago. The cops, who are learnt to have prepared a new questionnaire for interrogating actor Dileep and his director friend Nadirshah in the coming days, quizzed Anoop, younger brother of Dileep, for four hours, besides taking statement of another actor Dharmajan Bolgatty. The police is learnt to have mainly asked about the real estate dealings having joint ownership of persons from the cine field and also how Sunil Kumar aka Pulsar Suni, the main accused in the case, got into the shooting venues of certain films. “I was shown some pictures of mine along with Suni and asked whether I previously knew him. Those pictures might have been shot at any movie location as I do pose for photographs with many people at the film shooting sites,” Dharmajan told media while coming out of the Aluva police club.
Meanwhile, a Judicial First Class Magistrate Court here on Wednesday sent Suni to police custody for five days. The custody was granted on a petition by the police citing the need to further interrogate the accused and take him to Coimbatore, where he went to hide after the crime. Sources said the SIT planned to question him on the recent developments, including the details of the phone calls that he made from within the cell using a mobile phone smuggled in and regarding the original memory card used to record the attack on the actor.
While speculations are rife on the imminent arrest of a few bigwigs in the Malayalam film industry in connection with the case, the members of the SIT have been directed by the top brass not to leak out any information to the media or the public. “The probe is progressing in the right track. The cops will not rush into making any arrest. The media should desist from triggering speculations,” said A.V. George, Superintendent of Police, Ernakulam Rural.
