Visakhapatnam: Municipal tax official lands in ACB net

The accused was identified as Rayana Srinivas, an assistant tax collector in Ward 4 under Zone I of GVMC.

Visakhapatnam: Officials of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday arrested an assistant tax collector of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 80,000 from a complainant.

The accused was identified as Rayana Srinivas, an assistant tax collector in Ward 4 under Zone I of GVMC. Based on a complaint, the officials laid a trap and nabbed the accused when he was accepting the kick-back.

DSP of ACB (Visakha Urban) K. Ramakrishna Prasad said the tax collector demanded the bribe for processing and getting an assessment to tax and issuance of tax book of a newly constructed building in MSR Layout, near Madhuranagar.

During investigation, the ACB officials came to know that Rayana Srinivas was to share the amount with six others including the bill collector, one clerical staff, revenue inspector, revenue officer, assistant commissioner and zonal commissioner. The investigation is on in the case.
