Hyderabad: Conmen arrested for duping people

The police seized Rs 40,95,000 as cash, a laptop, 11 phones and a car.

Hyderabad: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Cyberabad police, that was formed recently, busted a gang of conmen who were involved in four cases of cheating, under the pretext of selling ‘Karakkaya’ seeds.

The accused were identified as Muppala Mallikarjuna, 36, of Ambapuram, Nellore in AP; Maturi Devaraj Anil Kumar, 35, of Kamakshi Nagar, Nellore, Penukonda; Jaganmohan Rao, 36, of Padalakuru Mandal, Nellore; Gundapaneni Surendra, 29, of Chejerla Mandal, Nellore, Thinnaluru; Mahesh, 36, of Arvinda Nagar, Nellore district and Noti Chiranjeevi Reddy, 45, a government teacher from Zilla Parishad Colony in Nellore district.

“When people approached them, they convinced them to invest Rs 1,000 for one kg Karakkaya saying it will be using for Ayurvedic medicine. Customers had to return it by making it a powder for which the company would pay Rs 1,300 per kg.” commissioner V.C. Sajjanar said.

When someone questioned why they have to pay Rs 1,000, the accused used to reply that it is an Ayurvedic medicine and the company will be facing huge loss. The police seized Rs 40,95,000 as cash, a laptop, 11 phones and a car.
