CID probe into Namo Foundation

The CID launched an investigation into an NGO named Namo Foundation', that took donations from people using the name of PM Modi.

Hyderabad: The CID launched an investigation into an NGO named ‘Namo Foundation’, that took donations from people using the name of Prime Minister Modi. CID officials said a man named Pankit Mehta approached several people telling them that he was close to the PM and duped them by taking lakhs as donations. The CID had received a letter from the PMO to investigate the matter.

Another complainant from the city, Ashish Jain, also approached the CID alleging that he was cheated by Namo Foundation. “Jain alleged that Mehta had taken Rs 5 lakh and cheated him. We registered a case of cheating,” said a senior official from CID. The Foundation was launched in Hyderabad in 2014. It went on to launch some missions for the poor.

But later, insiders wrote to the PMO alleging money swindling and frauds in the Foundation. "Namo Foundation's mission is to provide shelter to the homeless, food and clothes to the needy and medicine and care to the old," said its Facebook page. It's official website is down now.
