Chennai: 4 held with country-made bombs

The gang of four were to use the weapon to eliminate a history-sheeter belonging to Vyasarpadi on Saturday.

Chennai: City police on Saturday averted a possible gang war when they arrested four persons and seized 3 country-made bombs from a house in Arumbakkam, meant for eliminating a history-sheeter belonging to Vyasarpadi on Saturday.

It all started with the police team attached to Puzhal police station stopped a bike without a registration number during a vehicle check on Friday night. During the vehicle check, police spotted one Vishal, 24, of the Bhaktavachala Colony in Vyasarpadi riding on a motorbike along with his associate Aravind, a resident of Rani Anna Nagar in Arumbakkam.

As the two were riding a bike without a registration number police stopped the vehicle. When the police stopped the bike, Aravind escaped from the scene which made cops more suspicious. When checked police found that Vishal was not having the required documents for the vehicle. He was carrying knives. He was taken to the Puzhal station for enquiry,” police said.

Police believe that the duo was on their way to plan a murder of history sheeter ‘Thoppai’ Ganesan owing to previous enmity. After extracting information from Vishal, a police team reached Aravind’s house in Arumbakkam to conduct searches and seized three country-made bombs along with sickles from there. Police also arrested three associates of Vishal- Selvaraj, 21, Karthik, 22, and Immanuel, 23, all from B.V. Colony in Vyasarpadi.

Police have also launched a search for Aravind and his other accomplices named Balaji, Basha and Palani who had escaped from a vehicle checkpoint in Puzhal in another vehicle when police stopped Vishal on Friday night. Police said Vishal decided to eliminate Ganeshan owing to previous enmity.
