Bengaluru: A 29-year-old woman, who was drunk, died after she accidentally slipped and fell into a sump near her house in Jnanabharathi police limits on Sunday night.
The deceased, Vasuki, was a resident of Mallathahalli and hailed from Tamil Nadu. She got married five years ago, but was estranged from her husband and was living with her parents and four other siblings in a rented house in Mallathahalli. She was the second daughter of the couple and was working as a daily wager.
The police said that she was depressed after leaving her husband and was addicted to alcohol. Around 9.30 pm on Sunday, she finished her dinner, had a few drinks and was on her way back home when she accidentally stepped on the sump which was covered with a weak wooden board, which gave in. She fell into the sump and drowned.
The spot was just a few roads away from her house and Vasuki’s parents found her when they went out looking for her. When they saw her lying dead in the sump, they alerted the police, who shifted the body for postmortem.
The Jnanabharathi police have registered a case.
