Bengaluru: Elderly couple attacked and robbed by driver

The accused trio entered the flat while the couple was in the hall.

Bengaluru: An elderly couple was attacked and robbed of their valuables, including a car, by their car driver and his associates in an apartment in Hulimavu police station limits on Friday evening.

The incident took place in the flat belonging to Dhruv Parek, who hails from West Bengal, in L&T South City apartment at Santrupthi Nagar in JP Nagar 7th Phase in Arekere. Parek, 65, and his wife, Sunanda, 61, lived in the house and Parek had joined a private company as director after his retirement.

According to the police, Parek had employed a car driver about six months ago and the driver, who identified himself as Vijaykumar while joining, had not provided details about him. On Friday, the couple had gone out and returned in the evening around 7.30 pm. After dropping them, the driver parked the car in the basement and called two of his friends. Though the security staff of the apartment questioned them, the driver told the guard that the two were his friends and went to Parek’s flat on 16th floor under the pretext of handing over the car key.

“The accused trio entered the flat while the couple was in the hall. The assailants threatened them at knife point and as Sunanda tried to raise an alarm, one of them stabbed her in the hand. Parek was also assaulted by the gang, which ransacked the house and escaped with some gold jewels, Rs 50,000 in cash and Parek’s phone. The accused escaped in Parek’s Toyota Corolla. After a while, the couple managed to come out of the house and informed the neighbours about the incident and Sunanda was rushed to a hospital,” the police said. Later, Parek filed a complaint with the Hulimavu police, who are gathering details regarding the accused.
