Women excise officers harassed by auto driver in Bengaluru

The complainant said that the incident occurred around 3 pm when she and her colleague were heading from Shivajinagar to Cunningham Road.

Bengaluru: While on Saturday the city police claimed to have upgraded the security in the city by inducting 222 hi-tech patrol vehicles and launching an SOS app, on Sunday, two women excise officers were harassed by an autorickshaw driver near Sigma Mall on Cunningham Road.

An alert passerby tried to help the women and called up the police control room, but got a constant busy tone. Also, hi-tech Hoysalas were nowhere to be seen. A Cheetah patrolling bike reached the spot only after 20 minutes. Traffic policemen too reached the spot, but they only asked the harassed women to contact the police station.

The complainant, Smitha, a resident of Rammurthynagar, said that the incident occurred around 3 pm when she and her colleague were heading from Shivajinagar to Cunningham Road. The trouble started when they asked the autorickshaw driver to stop at a nearby shop. A verbal altercation soon ensued, and the rogue autorickshaw driver allegedly verbally abused them.

Both the autorickshaw driver, identified as Mohammed Ajim, and the two women have given statements at the High Grounds police station.
City Police Commissioner N.S. Megharikh, who learnt about the incident, has asked his men to take strict action.
