Adilabad: A stalker killed a minor girl for refusing to marry him in broad daylight in the Gopalnagar colony of Bhainsa town on Saturday evening.
The victim was identified as D. Sandhya, 16, and the accused is Mahesh, 21, a second year degree student from the same colony and a neighbour of the girl.
The police took the killer into custody after some time. Sandhya had lost her father some time ago and her mother was taking care of her.
Mahesh overpowered Sandhya and slit her throat with a small knife while she was coming home after purchasing Zandu Balm from a shop. He fled when a neighbour raised an alarm on seeing the incident.
The girl’s mother had complained about Mahesh’s harassment to the police and both the parties had compromised after the intervention of the police.
Sources said Mahesh had been harassing the girl since one-and-a-half years. He created a scene during the engagement function of the girl with another man some time back by showing a photograph in which he was with Sandhya and the incident resulted in cancellation of the engagement.
