Karnataka: Woman held for strike near DG&IGP's house

Ramanagar police have arrested her in connection with an atrocity case.

Bengaluru: Within a few hours after a woman staged a protest in front of the state police chief’s residence, the Ramanagar police have arrested her in connection with an atrocity case.

On Saturday evening, the woman, identified as Rajeshwari, a resident of Rajajinagar and hailing from Chikkamagaluru, had staged a protest in front of DG & IGP Om Prakash’s residence on Nrupatunga Road. She had alleged that the Om Prakash’s son Karthikesh and his friend Ravishankar were harassing her to register two residential plots belonging to her, in their names. Further, she had accused Ravishankar of sexually harassing her.

She claimed that she had approached Rajajinagar police several times, but they did not receive her complaint, as it involved police chief’s son. She had told the media that she had also tried to meet the DG&IGP, but he had declined to meet her. Hence she was protesting in front of his house.

On Sunday, the Kanakapura Town police arrested her in connection with an atrocity complaint filed by one Sampangiram, who is said to be an advocate. The Ramanagar police were tight-lipped about the arrests. When Deccan Chronicle contacted the complainant, he said that he could not reveal anything the complaint at this point. It is learnt the complaint was filed on Sunday morning stating that Rajeshwari abused him in front of his family members and others on April 27.

It is learnt that the Ramanagar police raided the house of Rajeshwari in Rajajinagar on Sunday afternoon and took her into custody. It is said that the police have also seized some documents from her house, before taking her to Ramanagar, where the police are expected to produce her before a Magistrate.
