Woman sheeter murdered in Ranga Reddy district

Police identified her with the help of a photograph found in the handbag and informed her relatives.

Hyderabad: A 35-year-old woman rowdysheeter was murdered by an unidentified person in Ranga Reddy district. Police said M. Varalaxmi, 35, of Tandur, was accused in eight cases and was a member of the YSRC.

Police said Varalaxmi had worked as an RMP and for a few months ran a beauty parlour in Tandur.

On Friday morning, passersby found the body of a woman lying with its face to the ground near the Government Boys Welfare Hostel on the Vikarabad-Keerelli Road and informed the police.

Police found a handbag near the body. Police identified her with the help of a photograph found in the handbag and informed her relatives.

Vikarabad DSP T. Swamy said she appeared to have been killed at some other place and the body was dumped near the road. The body had a plastic rope tied around the neck, suggesting that she was strangled to death.

“The dog squad that was deployed sniffed its way till a nearby college and returned. The family did not suspect anyone”, Mr Swamy said.

Varalaxmi had claimed to be the YSRC Ranga Reddy woman cell president. She was accused in eight cases including threatening people, extortion and creating nuisance.

A rowdysheet was opened on her in August 2015. She was convicted of giving false witness and sentenced by the Vikarabad court to three month’s jail and a fine of Rs 1,500.

Sources said that she had lodged seven complaints. Police registered a murder case and formed special teams to nab her killers.
