Hyderabad: BTech graduate held for cheating students

Hyderabad: A BTech graduate and his associate were nabbed by the West Zone Task Force team for cheating students on the pretext of providing them seats in top medical colleges in Bangaluru and charging them lakhs of rupees. Officials seized approximately Rs 25 lakh from their possession along with visiting cards and other incriminating materials.

The men were identified as Abhimanyu Kumar Singh alias Dinesh Kumar Singh alias Arnav Kumar Singh, 35, the mastermind behind the scam, and Suryanarayana Jha alias Deepak alias Rishikanth alias Chandra Prakash, 30, a medical representative, both natives of Bihar. Police said that two more men, identified as Kamran Hussain alias Shashank Shekhar alias Abhinav Kishore, and Asgar Sayeed alias Abhay, were absconding.

A BTech (CSE) graduate and son of a medical officer at Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) in Bihar, Abhimanyu Kumar Singh was into medicine transport business at Bihar, said police commissioner of Hyderabad Anjani Kumar.

“Suryanarayana works as a medical representative at MP Health Care in Darbhanga of Bihar and the duo are friends from childhood. Kamran Hussain and Asgar Sayeed got acquainted with Abhimanyu Kumar about three years ago. Due to financial problems, they hatched a plan to cheat innocent needy persons under the guise of providing medical college seats in Bangaluru colleges by taking huge amounts of money from them,” said the official.

The victims, upon realising they had been cheated, approached the police and lodged a complaint. A probe was launched and based on a tip off, the West Zone Task Force team caught the men and recovered cash, mobiles and materials from them. The duo, along with the recovered property, were handed over to Panjagutta police.
