Hyderabad: SUV rams into truck at Outer Ring Road, 8 die

Seven of the victims were students from Sadashivpet of Medak district, heading to attend a marriage reception at Medchal.

Hyderabad: In a road mishap on the Outer Ring Road, eight youngsters were killed on the spot when the MUV they were travelling in got crushed between two trucks on Tuesday midnight at Medchal. Seven of the victims were students from Sadashivpet of Medak district, heading to attend a marriage reception at Medchal.

The driver of their Tavera slowed down and was about to stop the vehicle when he saw a truck halted at the ORR tollgate at Medchal. Suddenly another truck came from behind and rammed the Tavera, sandwiching it between the two heavy vehicles.

All the victims were stuck inside the vehicle with grievous injuries. While, eight people died on the spot another person was admitted to hospital with serious injuries. The bride’s younger brother Mohammed Irfan was also among those who died.

Truck driver was negligent
Eight people were killed when their MUV was crushed between two trucks on Tuesday midnight on the ORR. All vehicles have to halt at the tollgate to pay toll and the first truck and the MUV of the victims were following rules. However, the second truck’s driver was driving rashly.

“The second truck driver lost control as he was speeding. The speed was so much that the MUV was crushed between the vehicles,” said Petbasheerabad ACP, S. Ashok Kumar. Police booked a case against the truck driver. “The truck was going to Kolkata with household articles from RGIA colony,” said the ACP.

The accident took place at around 11.30 pm. The MUV was driven by its owner Md Sakhawat Ali, 30, a resident of Sadashivpet. Ali’s MUV was hired by the youths who wanted to attend a wedding reception. Ali also died on the spot.

The other victims are Mahmood Firoz, 24, an engineering student, Mahmood Nishad Ali, 24, engineering student, Mahmood Irfan, 17, an Intermediate student, Md Akbar, 22, a degree student, Md Akheel, 21, a degree student, Mahmood Imraz, an engineering graduate, and Md Sameer, 21, an engineering student. All the dead belong to the Sadashivpet area in the city.
