Hyderabad: Husband sets wife on fire over disputes

Ashok had got addicted to alcohol and was reportedly harassing his wife for the last few months.

Nizamabad: A woman was burnt alive in Birkur mandal headquarters of Kamareddy district late on Sunday night.

The victim has been identified as Merige Laxmi, 35. Her husband Ashok, a tailor, allegedly set her on fire over family disputes.

Ashok had got addicted to alcohol and was reportedly harassing his wife for the last few months.

On Monday, he poured kerosene on Laxmi in an inebriated condition and set her on fire.

The victim suffered severe burns and died on the spot. The couple have two sons. Birkur police rushed to the spot and registered a case.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle Banswada DSP Yadagiri said that Ashok has been booked under Sections 498-A (Husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) and 306 (Abetment of suicide) of the IPC.

One of the victims’ son had initially told that his father killed her mother, but later claimed that it was a suicide, he explained.
