When humour becomes insulting

All India Bakchod's Tanmay Bhat's spoof on Lata Mangeshkar and Sachin Tendulkar has backfired.

The industry is up in arms at funny man Tanmay Bhat’s video, deriding Lata Mangeshkar and Sachin Tendulkar.

Facing a ban: Prodded by political parties, Mumbai police says it is consulting legal experts and will contact Google and YouTube about blocking the video.

‘Should be arrested’: Expressing deep disgust at the desecration of the two legends, Pahlaj Nihalani says, “Banning this character (Tanmay Bhat) in Maharashtra is not enough. Lata Ji and Sachin Tendulkar don’t belong to Maharashtra only; they are a part of every Indian’s life. This fellow has insulted every Indian. He should be arrested immediately without any further delay and dealt with severely. Deriding this two institutions who have devoted their lives to doing our country prou shame!

News now comes of Maharashtra’s Raj Thackeray’s MNS filing an FIR against Tanmay Bhat and also issuing a diktat that Bhat be not allowed to perform anywhere in Maharashtra.

In support: Meanwhile, Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt supported Tanmay. Though her statement was diplomatic, she maintained that people should look at the positive aspects of his comedy.

Disclaimer: The video has Tanmay using Snapchat’s face-swap feature, arguing about who is the better player. It was posted with the disclaimer, “I make such nonsense on my Snapchat.”

Mockery: Titled Sachin v/s Lata Civil War, Tanmay is seen in the video taking jibes at the 86-year-old melody queen and the 43-year-old cricketing legend.
Some of the punch lines are:

“Phuck Virat. No, I’m very respectful for Virat. He is very good with bat and ladies.”

“Lata Tai namaskar. Very respectfully I’d like to add that you are 5,000 years old.”

“Your (Lata) face looks like someone has kept you in water for eight days.”

“Just look at you. Jon Snow also died, so you (Lata) should also die.”

The comedian’s humour, naturally, didn’t go down well with people bombarding the post with negative feedbacks. Actors Anupam Kher, Riteish Deshmukh and Celina Jaitly on Sunday criticised Bhat, saying the video was “not funny” at all.
