Playing with numbers

Dr Muralee Bala Krushna was conferred with the Young State Scientist Award 2016.

Numbers have always fascinated Dr Muralee Bala Krushna, a PhD in Mathematics from Andhra University. Hailing from Visakhapatnam, Dr Krushna was recently honoured by the Andhra Pradesh government with the ‘Young State Scientist Award 2016’ for his work in the field of Mathematics.

“Receiving the award from Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu was an overwhelming experience,” says Dr Krushna. The state selects the best of work done in the field of science and technology. After thorough scrutiny, the awardees are selected. “Being amongst the best definitely feels great and sharing the podium with other brilliant minds motivates me to excel further,” he says.

Dr Krushna did his research on ‘Existence of positive solutions to fractional order two-point boundary value problems’. To him, it was the turning point in his career. “Since childhood, I was interested in numbers and eventually, it turned into my passion. Currently, I am working as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics in Maharaj Vijayaram Gajapathi Raj College of Engineering, and my aim is to spread the love for numbers to all. People are quite skeptical about studying mathematics, but I want my students to enjoy it, especially geometry. It is the one segment of mathematics which has always been on the back burner,” he says.

Apart from being a doctorate in Mathematics, Dr Krushna has also done MSc and MPhil from Andhra University. He has published about 25 research articles in various reputed international journals and has also participated in international seminars, workshops and training programmes.

Dr krushna also has an artistic side to him. “In my free time, I like writing and drawing. I’ve also received medals at the district level for the same. My forte lies in portraits. Recently, I drew Mahatma Gandhi’s portrait as a tribute to him on his birthday. Playing with colours is as satisfying as solving equations,” he says.
