Kanpur woman thought to be dead reunites with family after 40 years

Her family had even performed her funeral rites by immersing her body in the river Ganga.

An 82-year-old woman in Kanpur who was believed to be dead was finally reunited with her two daughters after 40 years. Vilasa, who is from the Bidhnoo village of the district, had supposedly died of snakebite in 1976.

Her family had even performed her funeral rites by immersing her body in the river Ganga. When the woman returned home on Friday after 40 years, she revealed that she had only lost consciousness and was eventually rescued by some boatmen who later took her to the village temple.

Vilasa had lost her memory but recently remembered the incident, according to reports. Her daughters were able to recognise her from a birthmark.
