Mustafa hits Onam jackpot

Mustafa said that he had come to know that his ticket had won the first prize immediately after the announcement of the results on Friday.

MALAPPURAM: Mustafa Moottatharammal, 48, of Chuzhali near Parappanangadi in the district, is the luckiest person who has become a crorepathi overnight by winning the Kerala Onam bumper lottery prize of Rs 10 crore. Mustafa, a pick-up van driver and coconut trader, had bought the prize winning ticket bearing the number AJ 442876 from a vendor at Parappanagadi bus stand. The identity of the winner came to light when Mustafa along with a lawyer friend met the manager of the Federal Bank branch at Parappangadi to hand over the winning ticket.

Mustafa said that he had come to know that his ticket had won the first prize immediately after the announcement of the results on Friday. Mustafa will get around Rs 6.3 crore after deductions of taxes and commissions. Lottery agent P.K. Khalid will get Rs 90 lakh. Mustafa wants to develop his small-scale coconut trade, which was inherited from his late father, and build a small house for his family of six members.

Meanwhile, a magician named Satheesh Babu claimed that his prediction of the winning ticket number had come true. He had said on August 30 that ticket with the number AJ2876 would win the first prize. The prediction which was undersigned by Manjeri municipal vice-chairman V.P. Firos was kept at a bank locker. The box was opened by Manjeri CI N.B. Shaiju on Saturday and the number was found to be correct.
