Morsel code is on fleek

Millenials in the city are hosting five course dinners at home, where the host prepares one course, and the rest is brought in by guests.

There’s a new menu for millennials being scripted. And it’s not miniscule or junk-oriented any more. Youngsters are going all out with home parties and they’re not taking the services of random caterers and ordering in a few bottles of booze.

They’re going the whole hog with four and five course meals at fancy home parties. Then there are also variations of progressive dinners, where the host prepares one course, and each of the guests bring in one course each, so that the host doesn’t get stressed.

Culinary expert Anna Minocher agrees, “Youngsters today are aware of the current food trends and enjoy gourmet dining experiences. They like to entertain in a similar style in their homes that they have seen while travelling. They spend a lot of time and effort to plan and select a full-course meal that’s special, well-plated and served. I also host a lot of such home parties.”

“Off late, we have all been exposed to the world of Masterchefs, and have also been whipping up a storm in the kitchen. And thanks to social media, most people who are cooking up these delicacies are also posting photos of their dishes on WhatsApp or sharing them on Instagram or Facebook. And that in turn has led to friends asking to get together, and each of them prepares one course. I’ve attended and also hosted a couple of parties where we have brought together four-course, five-course and even seven-course meals,” says Sumit Kapur, a marketing consultant with a start-up in the city.

Hosting a lavish party may seem daunting, but if you know what to plan for, and there are friends pitching in with culinary creations, it can be a blast! Khushboo Chawla Ramnane, a food connoisseur states, “You want to have fun, but you don’t want the party to get out of hand, so what better way than getting friends to showcase their innovative dishes and make it an exotic six-course or seven-course meal at home that everyone can enjoy. I confess that I like to experiment with my cooking in the kitchen and most of the times when the dishes turn out the way I wanted them to be, I post photographs on my Facebook page. I receive a lot of compliments and friends send messages that they would like to try out these dishes. So we call them over and make the best out of our home lunches or dinner parties with a lavish meal. Food preferences have come a full circle; the number of dishes made at home is on the rise and there’s a tilt towards conscious eating.”

Another food critic and management consultant, Nitin Hajela adds, “There’s a great demand for exotic cuisine at home parties. I have hosted parties where I’ve served full five-course meals. Some people even invite celebrity chefs home to cook these full-fledged course meals at home.”
