Tree names to identify venues of Kerala State School Youth festival

Main venue will be named Neermathalam; fest will be held in Thrissur from January 6 to January 10.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Venues of the Kerala State School Youth festival will be given the names of trees and plants. The main venue will be given the name Neermathalam, the tree which was close to Kamala Surraiya’s heart. The Youth festival will be held at Thrissur from January 6 to January 10. The youth festival was being given the names of trees and plants as part of the plan to implement the green protocol in the youth festival, said DPI K V Mohankumar.

The name of the stage where cultural programmes will be organised during the evenings has been named Nishagandhi and the community kitchen the name Ponnaryan. Ponnnaryan incidentally is the name of the indigenous variety of rice found in Thrissur region. The food plaza at the venue would be called Sarvasgandhi while the green protocol office would be called Thulasi, said Mr Mohankumar. The names of the 22 venues where competitions will be held are Nilakurinji, Thenvarika, Chempazhathi, Nilolpalam, Neermaruth, Nanthyavattom, Kudamulla, Manjadi, Kannikonna, Chempakam, Devadaru, Pavizhamalli, Nityakalyani, Rajamalli, Suryakanthi, Neelakadambu, Shanghupushpam, Neelathamara, Ashokam, Kashithumpa, Chandanam, Keram.

Of the, three venues Neermathalam, Nishagandhi and Neelakurinji will be at Thekkinkadu Maidan, the epicentre of activities in Thrissur. The pictures of the trees after which they were named will be displayed at the venue. Last year, venues were given the names of rivers.
