Woman raped in broad daylight, no one saves her, twitter reacts

The rape of the 28-year-old woman by an allegedly drunken man, on the footpath of Vishakhapatnam has left everyone shocked. What is even more shocking is that the incident happened in broad daylight and video footage shows passers-by who did nothing to come to the aid of the woman. Instead, an autorickshaw driver recorded the crime on his mobile phone, which helped authorities nab the rapist.

According to The Indian Express, the accused was identified as 23-year-old Ganji Siva, a truck driver.

While, the heinous act in itself is disconcerting, what is perhaps, even more shocking, and sad is the lack of outcry while the crime was being perpetrated.

Social media, however, has condemned the act of brutality with many sharing the hashtag #wakeupindia, to put forward their shock and disbelief.

By the time the police had arrived, Siva had already left, but based on the information received, the police traced Siva and took him into custody. They sent the woman to King George Hospital for medical examination.
